The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the notification for UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Recruitment 2027 for various posts in GSI and CGWB. A total of 127 tentative vacancies have been announced.

UPSC Geo Scientist Recruitment 2027 Eligibility Criteria
Nationality
1. The candidate must be a citizen of India, subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or belong to another eligible category mentioned in the official notification.
2. Candidates requiring an eligibility certificate from the Government of India must obtain the same as prescribed in the rules.
Educational Eligibility
1. Candidates must possess the prescribed Master’s degree or equivalent qualification for the post and stream in which they are applying.
2. The required qualification varies according to Geology, Geophysics, Chemistry and Hydrogeology related posts.
3. Candidates who have appeared in or intend to appear in the qualifying examination may also be allowed provisionally, subject to the conditions mentioned in the notification.
Physical Standards
1. Candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standards prescribed for the concerned posts.
2. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities must also meet the applicable physical requirements and functional classification prescribed for the relevant post.

UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Exam Pattern 2027
The UPSC Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 will be conducted in three stages. Stage-I is the Preliminary Examination, Stage-II is the Main Examination and Stage-III is the Personality Test / Interview.
Stage-I: Preliminary Examination
The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective type papers for the concerned stream. Paper-I is General Studies and Paper-II is the stream-specific subject.

Stage-II: Main Examination
Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination will be allowed to appear in the Main Examination. The Main Examination is descriptive / conventional in nature and carries 600 marks.
- Geology / Hydrogeology Stream: Three papers carrying 200 marks each.
- Geophysics Stream: Three papers carrying 200 marks each.
- Chemistry Stream: Three papers carrying 200 marks each.
- Each paper is of 3 Hours duration.
- Total Marks: 600.
Stage-III: Personality Test / Interview
- Personality Test / Interview: 200 Marks.
- Final merit is prepared according to the marks obtained in the prescribed stages as per the examination rules.
- Negative Marking: There is a penalty for wrong answers in the objective type Preliminary Examination.
- For a wrong answer, one-third of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted.
- No penalty is applied when a question is left unanswered.

UPSC Geo Scientist 2027 Selection Process
- Stage 1: Combined Geo-Scientist Preliminary Examination.
- Stage 2: Combined Geo-Scientist Main Examination.

- Candidates must qualify each applicable stage according to the prescribed rules.
- Final selection and service allocation will be based on merit, preferences, vacancies and other applicable conditions.

UPSC Geo Scientist Exam City / Centre 2027
The Preliminary Examination is scheduled to be held on 10 January 2027 at the centres notified by UPSC.
The Preliminary Examination centres include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Delhi, Dispur, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Prayagraj, Shillong, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram.
The Main Examination is scheduled for 19 and 20 June 2027 at the notified Main Examination centres.
Candidates should check their e-Admit Card for the final examination centre, reporting time and other important instructions.
